Portion sizes are more important than we sometimes realise. Whether we need to lose weight, maintain or gain it, the portion size we eat largely impacts this. 

In developed countries where fast food is widely available and affordable people are consuming food in amounts far larger than their recommended portion sizes. This accounts for the increase in obesity and related health diseases. 

Even in our own homes we sometimes may not always know just how much to eat.
